Walking TIPs in Annaberg
Walking and enjoyment

Savour the magnificent panoramic views and the local specialities of the mountain huts on the sunny side of the ‘Salzburg Dolomites’ with views of the striking Bischofsmütze peak (2,458m). The Riedelkar 2-seater cable car in Annaberg is an ideal starting point for magnificent walks and mountain tours. You can, for example, explore the entire Edtalm and Zwieselalm region on foot with its numerous huts and fantastic view points.
Zwieselalm – Gablonzer Hütte – views
From the Riedelkarbahn mountain station = starting point at route no. 50c – along a wide Alpine road to the Rottenhofhütte hut (open in Summer) and from here follow route no. 50 to the Zwieselalmhütte – Gablonzer Hütte – Sonnenhof huts and some great views. Walk time approx. 2 hours.
Edtalm
From the mountain station, follow route no. 50c to the Zwieselalm hut and from here along route no. 24 past the Kleinedtalm hut and on to the next fork in the road. Turn right here past the Ameisensee lake to the Edtalm hut (catered). From here, follow route no. 50c again to the Gablonzer Hütte hut and back to the Riedelkarbahn railway. Walk time approx. 3.5 hrs.
Donnerkogel (only for experienced mountaineers!)
Follow route no. 50 ‘Zwieselalm’ to the Gablonzer Hütte hut. Here, route no. 50 begins to follow the Austriaweg trail to the Donnerkogel turn-off. The climb from the Austriaweg trail is only suitable for experienced mountaineers with no fear of heights. Walk time from Austriaweg trail 1.5 – 2 hrs.
Austriaweg – Stuhlalm
Follow route no. 50 ‘Zwieselalm’ to the Gablonzer Hütte hut. From here, follow the Austriaweg trail to Stuhlalm – route no. 611 – only suitable for experienced mountaineers with no fear of heights. Walk time approx. 3 hrs. Descent via Alpine road to the Astauwinkel car park.
Hut walks
Stuhlalm (1467m) / Theodor Körnerhütte (1454m)
Starting point: Annaberg

Walk time: 3 hrs
Route description: past the church via the Kopfberg mountain to Astauwinkel – Salzburger Dolomitenhof hut (catered) and via Astaubauer to the Pommerbauer (last car park for cars). From here, the route leads along the AlmArtWeg trail (beautiful woodworks produced by local carvers line the way) to the Stuhlam and Theodor Körnerhütte huts (catering at both huts from June to mid-October)
Variation for return journey: back to Annaberg along the same route as the ascent or via the Austriaweg trail to the Zwieselalm hut or towards the Loseggalm and Mahdalm huts – and from here, down to Annaberg.
Mahdalm (1480m) and Loseggalm (1460m)
Starting point: Annaberg
Route marking: 57
Walk time: 3hrs
Route description: Walk along the main road to the settlement of Mandlhof. From here, turn left and after the bridge, turn right immediately and carry on until you reach Ponn (last car park). Then continue along the Güterweg trail until you reach the Mahdalm-Dürmoos crossing.
Walk past the high wall through the forest up to the Mahdalm hut. Turn off to the Loseggalm hut shortly before reaching the Mahdalm hut. From here, you can enjoy magnificent all-round views of the mountains of the Salzburg region (Ankogel, Sonnblick, Grossglockner, Kitzsteinhorn, Grossvenediger, Hochkönig, Tennengebirge, Hagengebirge, Hoher Göll, Untersberg, Osterhorn chain). Continue on via the Sulzkaralm hut (40 mins) to the Hofpürglhütte (2 hrs) – then descend down to Filzmoos or continue on to the Dachsteinsüdwandhütte or Adamekhütte huts or climb up to the Bischofsmütze peak (only recommended with a mountain guide if not familiar with the area!)
Rottenhofhütte
From Abtenau – towards Annaberg Astauwinkel – Winterstellgut –Rottenhofhütte hut car park
From here: Walk time approx. 1.15 hr along route no. 50. The Rottenhofhütte hut can be reached quickly and comfortably on the 2-seater Riedlkar cable car on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Walk time from the mountain station: 15 minutes
