Walking TIPs in Gosau

Unbelievably beautiful

Hiking in Gosau

Amazingly diverse – just like the endless views of the panoramic Alps – there are plenty of opportunities for enjoying leisure and freedom here on the Zwieselalm in Gosau. There is something for everyone here – with long walks or climbing tours or casual strolls. Even if you just want to spend a few hours escaping from everyday life, soaking up the sun in the meadows and enjoying a hearty local snack: you are sure to find everything your heart desires in the Gosau–Zwieselalm walking region. Here are some of the best walking tips and tour suggestions from the Inner Salzkammergut region:

Großer Donnerkogel 2,054 m
Route no. 611/628, Duration approx. 2 hours, difficulty: red
The route leads past the Gablonzerhütte hut and then to the deep intersection between the craggy Kleiner Donnerkogel and the domed Törleck.
After a few minutes, you will come to a fork in the route. The right fork is the Austriaweg trail to the Stuhlalm hut – we will take the left route. It initially leads through areas of greenery and pine trees then over stone slabs, rubble, steep rocky sections and through a short gorge towards the peak. The top section of the train leads across grassy terrain and is a comfortable walk.

Zwieselalm circular route
Route no. 49, duration: approx. 2 hours, difficulty: blue/red

A well signposted trail leads from the mountain station with slight inclines to the Gablonzerhütte and Breiningalm huts (10 minutes), to the Sonnenalm hut (20 minutes), to the Zwieselalmhöhe peak (30 minutes) and the Zwieselalmhütte hut (40 minutes). From the Zwieselalmhütte, follow the Herrenweg trail (route no. 611) back to the cable car. The circular route takes around 2 hours, including a short break.

Note: On the route between the Gablonzerhütte and Sonnenalm huts, there is a sign for the cable car to Annaberg. This only operates in the middle of Summer and only at specific times. Please note the times on the sign.

Route from the Gosaukammbahn mountain station to the Riedlkar mountain station
Route no. 46, from crossroads route no. Annaberg, duration: approx. 1.5 hours
 Difficulty: blue/red

A well signposted footpath runs from the mountain station of the Gosaukammbahn cable car along gentle inclines via the Gablonzerhütte and Breiningalm huts (10 minutes) to the Sonnenalm hut (20 minutes), to the Zwieselalmhöhe peak (30 minutes) and to the Zwieselalmhütte hut (40 minutes) and from here on to the Herrenweg – Russbach – Annaberg crossroads. From here, turn left towards Annaberg.

Walking with a hire pushchair
A well signposted footpath runs from the mountain station of the Gosaukammbahn cable car along gentle inclines to the Gablonzerhütte and Breiningalm huts and along the Jägerweg trail down to the Zwieselalmhütte hut. On the way back, there is the possibility of walking via the Sonnenalmhütte hut to the Zwieselalmhöhe (with great views at 1,587 m). The walk as a whole, with a short break, takes approx. 2 ½ to 3 hours.
