The railways leads up from the Gosausee lake up to the green meadows of the Zwieselalm offering spectacular views of the imposing craggy Gosaukamm ridge, the crystal clear Gosausee lake and the Gosau glacier. The Zwieselalm provides well signposted footpaths, suitable for pushchairs, across gently rolling Alpine meadows and through green mountain forests to some inviting Alpine huts.

Experienced mountain enthusiasts will be just as happy here as leisure walkers and those with a passion for the mountain hut cuisine! There is no chance of getting lost with the well signposted trails – the perfect way to enjoy the tranquillity of the mountains.

One of the most popular footpaths leads up the Grosser Donnerkogel peak (with great views from the summit) across some dramatic and craggy limestone formations.  At this point, it reaches the Intersport fixed ropes course with its demanding and sporty challenges. From the Gablonzer Hütte mountain hut close to the mountain station, the route follows 2 stages, climbing some 400m altitude to the summit cross on top of the Grosser Donnerkogel. Allow around 3 hours for this climb across steep faces – medium to difficult rating.
