A milestone for the future of our ski area

Last week, history was made in Dachstein West - with the official ground-breaking ceremony for two state-of-the-art 6-seater chairlifts, we are sending a strong signal for quality, comfort and the further development of our region. With an investment volume of 22 million euros, two new cable car facilities including a technical centre will be built by the winter of 2025/26 - across the border between Upper Austria and Salzburg.

Comfort, efficiency and a look ahead What looks like ‘just’ a construction site at first glance is actually a project with a vision: The new construction of the 6SB Angeralm and 6 SB Aussichtsberg chairlifts is not just a technical upgrade, but a clear commitment to sustainably strengthening winter tourism. Because where comfort, safety and efficiency count today, the cable car facilities must also be state-of-the-art.

The new lifts will be equipped with weather protection bonnets, seat heating and mechanical locking - for even greater safety and travelling comfort. The shared valley station, a garage with a loop station and a new technical centre also ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

Modern, angular building with a blue roof and wooden facade, set on a snowy landscape under a clear sky.
A strong connection: Gosau & Annaberg

The two new chairlifts will replace the outdated lifts and connect the communities of Gosau (Upper Austria) and Annaberg (Salzburg) even more comfortably in future - a real joint project with added value for both provinces.

Markus Achleitner, State Councillor for Economic Affairs and Tourism, emphasised at the ground-breaking ceremony:

"The new lifts will further expand the wide range of offers in Dachstein West and provide guests with even more comfort. This investment is a tourism milestone for the entire region."

Rupert Schiefer, Managing Director of OÖ Seilbahnholding and CEO of Dachstein Tourismus AG, also emphasised the importance of the project:

"Our guests want to get up the mountain safely, comfortably and quickly - that's exactly what we're creating with this investment. This was an important decision for us for the future and the Dachstein West family ski area.

Securing the future - creating jobs

Winter tourism is an important economic factor in the region. Around 412,000 overnight stays were recorded in the Inner Salzkammergut alone in the 2024/25 winter season - and the trend is rising. According to studies, investments in the cable car sector generate a factor of 1:5 in added value in neighbouring sectors such as gastronomy, accommodation and retail.

The ground-breaking ceremony has therefore created much more than just a foundation: it is a strong signal for innovation, quality of life and regional development - and a promise to our guests that we will continue to offer them a skiing experience at the highest level in the future
